Breaking News!!!!

A contingent went to Washington DC to plea Pastor Ed's case!

Unfortunately, they were told that due to recent budget cuts, they would not be able to help. It will be up to Pastor Ed's church family to raise his bail to release him from jail.

So, Spirit of Joy family, we are relying on YOU to come out Saturday night and help raise the bail we need to free Pastor Ed.  The monies will go to help get our mission team to Belize to build a house for a family who is currently does not have a roof over their head!

Music Amnesty Month
September is Music Amnesty Month. We ask all folks who are in choir, or who have been in choir in the past to look into your sheet music library and bring back your choir anthems, Praise and Worship books and supplements and any commercial cantata cds that you may still have. There is a lot of music missing and our supplies are pretty depleted. We are blessed this year with a great group in choir and would like to have enough supplies for all. We have to remember that we need to be good stewards of the materials that God has given us and that we do not want to repurchase something of which we should have plenty. So, please look around at home - if you find you have a P&W book collection---it is TIME to bring these items back to church. Thank you.

Garden Duties - Week of June 27

Garden Duties for Volunteers
Week of June 27th
  • Weed between the rows of beans. This can be done by hoeing (Or a tiller). It doesn’t have to done by hand
  • Weed around the tomato plants where needed
  • Water as needed
    • To determine if a plant needs water, please feel the soil around the plant. If it is moist, water isn’t needed.
    • Often plants that are wilted actually are overwatered and have root rot
    • If a plant is wilted 1st thing in the morning before the sun hits it, it probably is over watered or perhaps has a borer in the stem.
    • The hot sun will wilt leaves as it draws water from them.
    • Please water 1st thing in the morning or late in the day. If watering late, please keep the water off of the foliage.
    • The best way to water is to take the nozzle off of the hose and apply the stream of water to the base of the plant and its roots.
  • The tomato plants may need to tied off again. String is hanging on a tomato stake near the front of the garden. There is also a very large spool of twine in the plastic picking tub that you can cut from.
  • The tomatoes with the short stakes need to have a longer stake placed. I have left stakes on the garden site.
  • The 2 rows of climbing beans need to have 2 or 3 more stakes inserted in the row.
  • The climbing beans need to have additional rows of string strung. The beans would like some vertical strings to be tied off and hung down from the horizontal ones.
  • Please place any produce picked from the garden in the church kitchen. I will pick it up 1st thing in the morning on Tuesday and again on Friday. It does NOT need to be in the fridge.

Thank you for your help

To Think About … Today is Pentecost, the anniversary of the Spirit coming to the disciples, and the birth (day) of the Christian Church.  The 20th century theologian, Karl Barth, spoke about the Greek word for Spirit, saying, “Pneuma means wind -- from Christ to man. He breathed on them: ‘Receive ye the Holy Ghost!’ Christians are those breathed upon by Christ.”
